PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wearing of an electrode due to the mercury vapor tending to be difficult to enter the nearly cylindrical electrode, as the tube becomes thinner. SOLUTION: In the cold cathode low-pressure discharge lamp, in which a fluorescent substance layer 2 is formed along the whole length of the inner wall of a glass tube 1 and rare gas and mercury are filled inside the glass tube 1, and a lead wire 3 is fitted airtightly at the both ends of the glass tube 1; and further, a nearly cylindrical electrode 4 is connected respectively to the inner side end of the lead wire 3, a through-hole 5 is provided at least at one or more places on the sidewall of the electrode 4 of a nearly cylindrical shape.
