MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDING APPARATUS

A magnetic tape recording apparatus capable of recording digital video data sufficient for displaying a preferable image upon modified-speed reproduction in a long time mode. When recording video data for modified-speed reproduction (for example, 16 times-speed reproduction) while distributing the data at a trace position of a rotation head upon modified-speed reproduction, if in a long time mode, the number of recording times of the video data for the same modified-speed reproduction is increased and the number of sync blocks recorded at once is reduced as compared to a case when recording is performed in a standard mode. For example, in the standard mode, 6 sync blocks are recorded three times while in the long time mode, 4 sync blocks are recorded four times. The present invention can be applied to a recording/reproduction apparatus displaying a preferable image upon modified-speed reproduction.
