A clamping mechanism fixes a component (2) in a seat (8). The mechanism has clamping elements (10), enclosed by an elastic ring membrane (11), to press the elements into clamping position. A pressure chamber (12) is formed between a housing (3) and the radial inner side of the membrane. The chamber is charged with a pressure medium to expand the membrane, so that the clamping elements can be moved into release position. The membrane is of elastic material, the clamp elements are of metal and are fastened to a plastic membrane web.
