A plastic optical memory device, e.g. CD, DVD, is made mainly of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with additional components containing nano-additives incorporated directly by thin film technology or through a batch of PET as carrier. One of the additional components can be polycarbonate. The nano-additives can be high-grade waxes, fillers or modifiers. The additional components can amount up to 40%. The carrier batch of PET can contain up to 60% additives. Various methods of preparing and controlling the composition of the blend, with or without polycarbonate, are listed. The feed material can be a mixture of pellets, or additive carrier pellets of the right composition can be prepared in a preparatory thin film extrusion stage. Alternatively, complete composite pellets can be prepared by this method. The main PET component can also be supplied in melt form.
