Cured resins useful as optical material can be produced by polymerizing an episulfide compound having in the molecule one or more epithio structures represented by the general formula (2): (2) (wherein R5 to R8, Y, p and q are each as defined in the description) in the presence of one or more of the halides of Group 13 to 16 elements of the long-form periodic table and/or a polymerization regulator represented by the general formula (1): (1) (wherein R1 to R4, X and m are each as defined in the description). The use of the polymerization regulator enables polymerization of the episulfide compound at a properly controlled rate to thereby give a cured resin reduced in optical distortion, string, discoloration, and separation from mold during polymerization. Further, the use of the halide can inhibit the viscosity increase of the raw material composition in storage or casting, particularly that due to spontaneous polymerization after the addition of a polymerization catalyst.
|
