The tripod or stand has a balancing weight on a lift arm which can be moved by an electric motor (5) and which is controlled by means of a measurement sensor (8) and microprocessor (12) containing a program. The program includes steps in which the measured balance or lack of balance at the sensor is determined during adjustment of the balance to vary the arm. The dynamically measured signal value is used to control the electric motor. Thus, the continuous adjustment movement of the motor is controlled as required.
