Alignment method for optical or fiber optic cables in which bridge regions of actuator material between the two components to be joined together are heated up so that residual compressive and tensile stresses in the connection region after is has cooled down serve to ensure that the components joined together are precisely aligned even if the junction area is subjected to prolonged heating above a critical temperature. Heating of the actuator material is undertaken using a high energy laser that is used to heat the double bridges of the actuator which are limited in how far they can expand by the other bridge elements. An Independent claim is made for an actuator for carrying out the alignment process, the essential areas of which are made of a material whose flowing limit has a minimum value over the usage temperature region, especially room temperature.
