Reactor irradiation facility - equipment for insertion and removal of samples

Mechanical handling plant for insertion and retrieval of materials samples from a reactor irradiation facility liner. The structure which is in two parts in gantry mounted for lateral movement and tiltable to permit alignment with the facility liner situated as reactor core periphery. A motor driven shaft passing through the structure brings the retrieval grab close to the sample and grab engagement and initial retrieval is then carried out by hand wind. When drawn up into the structure in a capsule the structure can be disconnected from the facility and moved to a disposal cell. Essentially mechanical with a minimum at electrical services the plant operates under depressurised reactor shut down conditions and no pressurisation facilities are required.
