<p>A mechanically operated grab and capsule for insertion and retrieval of samples from a reactor irradiating facility is in two parts a lower unit comprising the capsule with attaching hoist rope and lifting head and upper unit comprising the grab. Engagement or disengagement of the grab with the lifting head is automatic by virtue of lifting head and grab jaw profiles. In the inserted state the spring loaded latches on the lifting head are released and lock under the internal rim of the facility tube-thus rendering the capsule inserted and safe. Removal can only be effected by the grab which on retrieving the capsule automatically retracts the locking latches. Applicable to reactor or cell irradiating facilities with cylindrical vertical tube entry. Essentially mechanical incorporating no electrical or pneumatic ancillaries.</p> |
