1,180,313. Capstans; guiding cables; cable reels. NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP. 11 April, 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 17640/68. Addition to 1,118,835. Headings B8B and B8M. [Also in in Division F2] In the motion transmitting system of Specification 1,118,835, comprising balanced first and second cables 314A, 314B wound round driving and driven drums (10, 15), (Fig. 1 not shown), at least one of which is in two sections 335, 342 which are angularly adjustable one relative to the other to adjust the cable tensions, a helical groove 370 extends over approximately that half of the section 35 remote from the section 342 to receive one cable 314B, and a helical groove 371 extends over approximately that half of the section 342 which is remote from the section 335 to receive the other cable 314A. This guides the wrapping of the cables on the drum to prevent overlaying or chafing of one turn of a cable on an adjacent turn. The system is otherwise identical to that of Specification 1,118,835. In the further alternative form of two-part adjusting drum 310 shown, the section 335 is axially and circumferentially located on a shaft 312 by engagement of a diametral pin 384 projecting from the shaft into a selected pair of recesses 385 in the hub of the section. A retaining plate 390, secured to the section 335 by bolts 391 securing together the two drum sections 335, 342, completes the axial location of the drum. Arcuate slots 393 in the section 335 allow for angular adjustment of the section 342 relative thereto. |
