An assembly conveyer system comprises a plurality of endless conveyer units 14, 24, 34, arranged in generally parallel relationship and each having a plurality of longitudinally spaced stations (not shown) adjacent thereto, worksupporting means 12, 22, 32 on each conveyer unit, and drive means synchronously driving the conveyer units so as to move adjacent conveyer units in opposite directions, the drive means including stop means 42 for periodically simultaneously stopping the conveyer units with at least a portion of the work-supporting means of each conveyer unit in registry with at least one of the respective stations. The stop means consists of a Geneva mechanism 42, but to accurately position each unit a cam-actuated rod 100 is provided at each station and has a pointed end 102 which registers with a notch formed on the side of each unit. A spring 112 is provided between the cam and this rod 100 so as to provide a dwell action and a resilient loading of the rod 100. Each conveyer unit is supported by four running wheels 68 and four wheels 70 for providing lateral guidance. The unit is connected to a central endless drive chain 14. The conveyers described are for use in assembling photographic flash cube units. |
