PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an image recording material (ink jet recording sheet), capable of attaining a high quality and quality stabilization without releasing a layer with excellent adhesive properties to a support of an image recording layer (color material acceptive layer or the like). SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the image recording material comprises the step of forming the image recording layer by coating on the support. The method further comprises a surface treating step of corona discharging for the surface of the support of the side in which at least the image recording layer is formed in an atmosphere containing 20 vol.% or more of a carbonic acid gas, and a coating step of coating to form the image recording layer on the surface of the support of the corona discharged side.
