PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed optical retardation generating method and its high speed optical retardation generator by a rotating mirror in optical coherence tomography capable of easily forming, machining and assembling a highly accurate optical system. SOLUTION: The high speed optical retardation generator is provided with a perpendicular total reflection mirror 20 installed with plate like mirrors 23-1 to 23-4 in four faces in rotational radial directions of a prismatic block 21 rotating at high speed and having a square cross section, and a fixed reflection mirror 25 for receiving reflected light from the perpendicular total reflection mirror 20 and reflectively returning it through the same optical path.
