PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new 3-acetyl-N-substituted-3- aminomethyltetrahydrofuran-2-one derivative and its production method. SOLUTION: This derivative is represented by formula (1) (wherein R<1> , R<2> , and R<3> are each H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group; and R<4> and R<5> are each H or an optionally substituted arylmethyl group provided at least one on them is an optionally substituted arylmethyl group) and can be produced by the aminomethylation of a 3-acetyltetrahydrofuran-2-one derivative represented by formula (2) (wherein R<1> , R<2> , and R<3> are each the same as described above) with a primary or secondary amine represented by formula (3) (wherein R<4> and R<5> are each the same as described above) and formaldehyde or its polymer.
