PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an aqueous pigment dispersion excellent in storage stability after the lapse of time. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an aqueous pigment dispersion comprises a step (1) comprising ion-exchanging a bivalent or higher metallic ion of an acidic pigment derivative, which contains the bivalent or higher metallic ion as an impurity, by a chelate exchanging resin and a step (3) comprising dispersing an organic pigment in water by means of a high-pressure homogenizer in the presence of the acidic pigment derivative purified in the step (1) and a surface active agent.
