PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reaction inhibiting agent for radical polymerization of a vinyl monomer which can be used to add even under a cold condition without the fear that the agent may be hardened to block a pipe; and to provide a method for producing a vinyl polymer using the same. SOLUTION: The reaction inhibiting agent for radical polymerization of the vinyl monomer comprises a compound represented by formula (1) [wherein R is an 8-10C straight alkyl group]. The reaction inhibiting agent is added into the system of the polymerization of the vinyl monomer by a radical reaction.
