PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for rotational position detection which can detect the direction and position of rotation with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A contact spring 101 which has a 1st contact spring part 101a and a 2nd contact spring part 101b different in length from the 1st contact spring part 101a is inserted into a rotary shaft 114. A contact spring presser 102 is guided to contact spring guide pins 102a and 102b of the contact spring 101 to press the contact spring 101 and rotary shaft 104. The contact spring 101 and a circuit board 113 are brought into contact with each other. The circuit board 113 is provided with a 1st detection pattern 103 and a 2nd detection pattern 104 which come into contact with the 1st contact spring part 101a and a power supply pattern 105 which comes into contact with the 2nd contact spring part 101b. The 1st detection pattern 103 and 2nd detection pattern 104 are connected to an input terminal 107 of a decision circuit 112 through a resistance 106.
