PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate occurrence of burning on a recess surface of a material to be cut, cut by a cutting tool in the case of forming the recess at the material so as not to bring about a bur at a ridge of the periphery of the recess of the material and to obviate an increase in a cutting power. SOLUTION: A face milling cutter 10 has a blade 17 and a knife gib 21 contacted with the face of the blade 17, fixed to a mounting seat 13 provided along a circumferential direction at the outer peripheral edge at the axial one end side of a disc-like tool body 11, and cuts at the axial one end side. The thickness of the gib of the entirety or a part of the gib is changed in a longitudinal direction to a gradient surface inclined at the front surface of the gib in the longitudinal direction, and the gradient direction of the gradient surface is set to a twisted positional relation to the longitudinal direction of the blade. When the positional relation in which one end side of the tool is preceded from the other end side of the tool at the time of rotating the twist of the gradient direction and the longitudinal direction of the blade to the rotary axis of the tool, is set to a forward twist and expressed by the magnitude of a numeric value, the twist of the gradient direction of the gradient surface is set larger than that of the longitudinal direction of the blade.
