PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device wherein a nucleus is formed and/or isolated from a non-operating state to an operating state utilizing surface protrusions manufactured from an anisotropic material (especially polymerizable reactive mesogen) and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device including a nematic liquid crystal, a voltage means for applying voltage onto the liquid crystal and two substrates respectively having alignment layers provided thereon, the liquid crystal is interposed between the two substrates, the nematic liquid crystal is put in an operating state and a non-operating state and a plurality of surface protrusions formed by using the anisotropic material are provided on at least one alignment layer. |
