PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a green luminescent substance which has a short afterglow of 10 ms or less and less deterioration caused by aging. SOLUTION: The green luminescent substance comprises a composition formula, ZnXSiO4 .Mn which has an atomic ratio Mn/Zn and an atomic ratio of Zn/Si, wherein if the former is 0.050-0.055, the latter is 1.65-1.75, if the former is 0.055-0.065, the latter is 1.55-1.65, and if the former is 0.065-0.090, the latter is 1.45-1.55; or has an atomic ratio Mn/Zn and an atomic ratio of (Zn+Si)/Mn, wherein if the former is 0.050-0.055, the latter is 31 or more, if the former is 0.055-0.065, the latter is 29 or more, and if the former is 0.065-0.090, the latter is 25 or more.
