PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organometallic compound as a catalyst suitable for polymerization of an olefin. SOLUTION: The organometallic compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein M is an element of the group 3, 4-10, lanthanide or actinide transition metal of the periodic table; each R is independently a structural bridge rigidly connecting two ligands among ligands L1 , L2 and L3 and is constituted of 1-4 chain atoms selected from carbon, silicon, germanium, oxygen and boron; (m), (n) and (o) are each 0 or 1, provided that m+n+o=2 or 3; L1 is a ligand of the cyclopentadienyl type or is analogous to cyclopentadienyl; and L2 is a ligand of the cyclopentadienyl type or is analogous to cyclopentadienyl, or is a monovalent anionic ligand selected from the group consisting of N, P and B when m+n=2).
