PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical element by which man-hours are reduced and optical characteristics and durability are improved. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the optical element comprises a step to deposit a removable layer 12 composed of an inorganic material such as silicon on a substrate 11 composed of glass, a step to form a base layer 2 as a base of the optical element, composed of polyimide, a on the removable layer 12, a step to form grooves 4 cutting the base layer 2, a step to deposit an optical multilayer 3 on the base layer 2 while heating the substrate 11 and a step to obtain a number of minute optical elements by immersing the substrate 11 in a solution such as an alkaline solution and etching the removable layer 12 so as to separate the substrate 11 and the base layer 2 from each other.
