PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope member gripping device for an impact absorbing fence capable of obtaining stable slide resistance and having excellent high energy absorption property by facilitating mounting of a rope member to gripping fitting and providing an uniform pressing force. SOLUTION: In this rope member gripping device for the impact absorbing fence gripping a halfway part of the rope member and absorbing impact by allowing the slide of the rope member when a tensile force exceeding a set value acts on the rope member this rope member gripping device consists of a box body having a grip groove allowing the insertion of the rope member and a lidlike pressing device having a plurality of projecting parts pressing the rope member in opposition to the grip groove of the box body to grip and fix the rope member slidably by a tensile force exceeding a predetermined value between the grip groove of the box body and the pressing device. In this case, a width of a cross sectional shape of the grip groove is set to be smaller than an outer shape dimension of the rope member, and a depth is set to be larger than a radius of circumscribed circle of the rope member and smaller than the outer shape dimension. A rope member pressing face of the projecting part of the pressing device is formed into a recessed part shape wrapping the rope member, and an interval of arrangements of a plurality of projecting parts is set to be multiple of 1/2 of a rope member strand pitch to obtain more effective device.
