PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a gear by which damage of a tooth surface of a gear such as pitting, scoring and spalling can be prevented, and the gear with excellent facial fatigue strength. SOLUTION: A steel stock having a composition containing 0.10 to 0.30% C, 0.05 to 0.80% Si, 0.20 to 1.50% Mn, 0.85 to 3.00% Cr, 0.010 to 0.040% Al and 0.005 to 0.030% N, and, if required, further containing at least one kind selected from 0.05 to 0.70% Mo, 0.05 to 0.50% V and 0.05 to 0.70% W, and, if required, further containing at least one kind selected from 0.0005 to 0.005% B, 0.01 to 0.10% Nb and 0.01 to 0.10% Ti, and the balance substantially Fe is subjected to hyper-eutectoid carburizing, hardening and tempering treatment. After that, the tooth surface is ground, and further, shot peening is performed thereto.
