A pharmaceutical composition comprises a heavy metal salt of an antibiotic in admixture with a heavy metal salt of a sulphonamide and/or silver salicylate. The heavy metal salts may be those of gold, nickel, tin, zinc, mercury, platinum, osmium, molybdenum, titanium, copper or silver (preferred). Specified are silver salts of penicillin, cephalothin, colistimethate, and tetracycline; and silver salts of sulphamerazine, sulphonanilide, sulphathiazole, sulphapyridine, sulphamylon, sulphoxazole, sulphapyrimidine, sulphaquinoxaline, substituted benzene sulphonamide and sulphamyl benzothiadiazine dioxide. The compositions may be in the form of a powder, an aqueous suspension, ointment, aerosol or may be incorporated in a film-forming material. Aqueous solutions containing chloride ions e.g. NaCl may be used as carriers for the active ingredients. Specification 1,240,545 is referred to. The compositions are useful in the treatment of burns.
