PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a diol of high purity having high ultraviolet transmissivity without lowering a yield in a method for producing a dialkyl carbonate and the diol using a cyclic carbonate and an aliphatic monohydric alcohol as a raw material. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the dialkyl carbonate and the diol by reacting the cyclic carbonate and the aliphatic monohydric alcohol in the presence of a catalyst in a transesterification reactor to form the dialkyl carbonate and the diol and separating the diol-containing reaction liquid drawn out of the reactor in a diol distillation and refining process to obtain the diol and separating the dialkyl carbonate-containing reaction liquid drawn out of the reactor to obtain the dialkyl carbonate, water is supplied to the diol distillation and refining process when the diol-containing reaction liquid is separated in the diol distillation and refining process.
