PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate valve 5 with a valve plate 34 and a valve plate support 15 to be driven by a piston rod 31a joined to the valve plate support 15 inside a valve box 6 and extended to the outside of the valve box 6, allowing easy maintenance of through-holes 6c, 53b or the like formed in the valve box 6 through which the piston rod 31a can be fitted. SOLUTION: When the valve plate support 15 is at a valve closed position, a joint 61 between the valve plate 15 and a clevis 11 at the lower end of the piston rod 31 can be located inside a communication port 8 of the valve box 6 and exposed to the outside of the valve box 6 through the communication port 8.
