PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite damping brace having an excellent buckling strength nevertheless its construction is simple and light and capable of reducing various vibrations ranging from a small amplitude to a large amplitude that occurring in structures. SOLUTION: An elastic portion 2 having a large cross sectional area of shaft and an yielding portion 3 having a small cross sectional area of shaft are formed to a shaft member 1 comprising a flat plate-shaped steel member or a cross-shaped steel member for both the end portions 1a and 1b which are connected to frames of the structure; steel pipe members 6 having the surface facing the surface of the shaft member 1 are arranged in a manner freely making a relative displacement; and these steel pipe members 6 are mutually coupled together in this composite damping brace, a viscoelastic body 7 is interposed between the shaft member and the steel pipe members at the elastic portion 2; a discontinuous portion having a gas 5 capable of absorbing the expansion of the compound damping brace is provided to the shaft member 1; and the steel pipe members 6 are fixed to the shaft member 1 at the side where the viscoelastic body 7 is not interposed at the discontinuous portion as a boundary.
