摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transverse electric field system liquid crystal display panel which has high picture quality and wherein the generation of a display burning phenomenon is suppressed. SOLUTION: The transverse electric field system liquid crystal display device is provided with a pair of substrates at least one of which is transparent, a liquid crystal composition layer interposed between the substrates and consisting of a liquid crystal composition having aligned dielectric anisotropy and refractive index anisotropy, an alignment layer formed on the surface of the substrate in contact with liquid crystal composition layer for aligning the liquid crystal composition and respective polarizing means disposed on respective outer side of the pair of substrates. One of the substrates has pixel electrodes and common electrodes respectively provided in a plurality of pixels and the light transmittance and reflectance of the pixels are changed by supplying voltage signal waveform to apply an electric field nearly parallel to the surface of the substrate between the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes. The alignment layer is constituted principally of polyimide based polymer material having <=60% imidation ratio.
