<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid alkyl ester utilizable in an industrial scale, capable of producing a lower alkyl ester capable of being effectively utilized as diesel fuel oil or the like from triglyceride mainly contained in oils and fats under a practical relatively mild condition with high reaction efficiency. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a fatty acid alkyl ester by performing transesterification reaction between oils and fats and an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst, the alcohol is set to a supercritical or sub-critical state and at least one kind of a substance selected from the group consisting of an alkaline earth metal oxide, hydroxide and carbonate is used as the catalyst.</p> |
