PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for capping which can detect defects in tightening of screws at a screw capper and is inexpensive as compared with a way wherein a device for detecting defects in screwing is provided separately. SOLUTION: The screw capper 1 is equipped with a capping head 6 which holds a cap 5, a servomotor 7 which rotates the capping head, a voltmeter 10 which measures torque of the capping head, an encoder 11 which detects the angle of rotation for the capping head, and a control device 8 which controls the servomotor. Upon judging whether the screwing is good or bad during a process of screwing, measurements are made from a specified starting point of measurement to a point of finishing the screwing. When the measured angle of rotation is found to be within a predetermined angle for judging good or bad, the judgement is made that a satisfactory screwing is made, and when the measured angle of rotation is found to be without the predetermined angle for judgement, the screwing is judged to be defective.
