PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door apparatus for a vehicle, which suppresses increase in motor load to thereby prevent enlargement of a driving motor and increase cost of the same. SOLUTION: According to the sliding door apparatus, a center guide rail 1 extending along a vehicle body includes a linear portion 13 extending along an outer surface of the vehicle body and a curved portion 11 located at a front end of the linear portion 11 and curving toward the inside of the vehicle. A horizontal roller 3 and a vertical roller 4 arranged in the center guide rail 1 are supported by a roller bracket mounted on a sliding door D in a horizontally rotatable manner, and by pulling an operating wire bound to the roller bracket by the driving motor, the sliding door D is operated to be opened/closed. The curved portion 11 of the guide rail 1 includes a zone Zi separate from the linear portion 13 and a zone Zo closer to the same, and a radius of curvature Rb of the zone Zi is set to a value smaller than a radius of curvature Ra of the zone Zo. By virtue of this setting, a maximum value of the stroke of the sliding door D in the vehicle body direction with respect to predetermined strokes of the rollers 3, 4 along the guide rail 1 is reduced.
