An anti-static carpet structure comprises a carpet, a continuous anti-static composition layer on one surface of the carpet and a polymeric backing layer on the outer side of the anti-static layer. The carpet may be of the pile type having a fibrous pile anchored in and extending to one side of a woven textile backing, with the anti-static coating composition on the surface of the pile remote from the pile. The carpet may be made from textile fibres or blends of fibres such as wool, polyamides, cotton, polyolefines such as polypropylene, acrylics, polyesters, or jute. The anti-static composition used may comprise a mixture of an organic textile anti-static agent,- an ionic or non-ionic humectant and, when the humectant is a non-ionic humectant, an electrolyte. Numerous suitable antistatic agents are specified. The anti-static agent may be present in amount 0.01 to 12 ounces per square yard. The polymeric backing may be applied in the form of an aqueous dispersion and may consist of natural rubber, carboxylated butadiene-styrene rubber latex, polystyrene, polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylates and butadiene-styrene rubbers.</p> |
