PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition for ink jet recording which is water- base ink favorable in terms of handleability, odor, safeness, etc., has good delivery stability and color-developing properties, and gives an image excellent in hue, storability, stability, and water resistance and free from defects in image quality such as blur of fine lines. SOLUTION: This ink composition, prepared by dissolving or dispersing, in an aqueous medium, an azo dye having a coupling component comprising an aromatic nitrogen-containing 6-membered heterocycle, contains a compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R<101> and R<102> are each independently an aliphatic group, an aromatic group or the like; R<103> is an aliphatic oxy group, an optionally substituted amino or hydroxy group or the like; R<101> may combine with R<102> to form a 5- to 7-membered ring, and so may R<102> with R<103> and R<103> with R<101> ; and the case when a 2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidine backbone is formed is excluded). |
