ACTUATOR FOR INK JET PRINTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator for an ink jet printer capable of trimming only a part where a piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer covers a diaphragm and capable of trimming by a laser without damaging the diaphragm by controlling the laser precisely. SOLUTION: There is provided the actuator for the ink jet printer which has an ink tank 28 constituted by integrally forming a thick substrate 21 having a cavity structure and the diaphragm 22 for capping a cavity 20; and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive action part 26 having the piezoelectric/ electrostrictive layer 24 arranged between an upper electrode layer 25 and a lower electrode layer 23, and in which the piezoelectric/electrostrictive action part 26 is arranged on the ink tank 28 in a state in which the lower electrode layer 23 and the diaphragm 22 contact each other. An effective electrode area is controlled by trimming the upper electrode layer 25 of only a part where the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 24 covers the diaphragm 22, so that an ink jet amount is adjusted to an appropriate value.
