PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for sustaining the ejection characteristics of a head in which movement of a cap can be minimized and only a wiper can be moved and staining due to ink mist of flushing can be prevented. SOLUTION: The apparatus for sustaining the ejection characteristics of a head comprises means 110 for wiping a recording head by securing it and moving in the carrying direction of a recording medium, a capping means 130 for sealing the recording head by moving in the vertical direction, and means 150 disposed directly under the wiping means and absorbing ink drops generated through wiping by the wiping means or ink drops ejected from the recording head, wherein the wiping means, absorbing means and capping means are disposed in the direction not overlapping the sealing direction of the capping means and intersecting the wiping direction of the wiping means perpendicularly. Since ink drops are absorbed immediately by an absorbing material even if flushing operation is performed and ink drops dripping from the wiper of the wiping means are also absorbed, carrying passage of the recording medium and the recorder can be prevented from staining. |
