PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact chuck locking device capable of positively maintaining the gripped state of a workpiece at a spindle rotated at high speed. SOLUTION: The scroll chuck is composed of a chuck body 5 mounted to the end part of a hollow cylindrical spindle 2 and provided with a plurality of dovetail grooves drilled in a radial direction; a chuck face plate 7 mounted to the end part of a connecting shaft 4 disposed inside the hollow cylindrical shape of the spindle 2, and having a scroll-like screw 71; and a jaw 6 engaged with the scroll-like screw 71 on one side and movable along the dovetail grooves on the other side. The workpiece is gripped by the vertical movement of the jaw 6 moved by the rotation of the connecting shaft 4. Chuck locking devices 11, 12 operated to connect the spindle 2 and the connecting shaft 4 by centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the spindle 2 are installed at the connecting shaft 4. In a draw bar drive type chuck, the locking devices 11, 12 are also installed at a draw bar.
