PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a film surface of a master is impaired by a burr or a flaw of the end part of a thin-film base of a thermal head and this causes an abnormal printed image such as a black point in the case when a miniaturized thermal head or the like and a reduced-diameter platen roller or the like are used in combination based on the adoption of the miniaturized thermal head or the like and/or the reduced-diameter platen roller or the like which is consequent on a decrease of the amount of a material to be used and/or improvement in the manufacturing efficiency of the thermal head, or others. SOLUTION: Based on an on/off signal or the like from a home position 189, a control means 40 controls the thermal head 2 to start plate making at a plate-making start position 15b and then controls a pressing area switchover motor 132 of a pressing area varying means 137 through a motor driver 136 so that a press roller 103 may start pressing in conformity with the plate-making start position 15b in the master 15 already subjected to plate making and located on a printing drum 101.
