PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the preparation of a target chlorosilane compound having a thexyl group of formula (2) within a relatively short time in a high yield wherein the reaction proceeds promptly and continuously with a high reactivity. SOLUTION: In a process for preparing a chlorosilane compound having a thexyl group of formula (2) by allowing 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene to react with a hydrogen chlorosilane compound of formula (1): HSiR<1> R<2> Cl (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each a 3-10C univalent branched or cyclic hydrocarbon group having a hydrocarbon group at itsαorβposition) in the presence of an aluminum chloride catalyst, the aluminum chloride catalyst is treated with a hydrogen silane compound of the formula (3): HSiR<3> R<4> R<5> (wherein R<3> , R<4> and R<5> are each a 1-4C non-branched univalent hydrocarbon group or a halogen atom) prior to the reaction.
