PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and inexpensively constitute a rotary press and a controlling method thereof and to promote shortening of time required for preparation of printing and reduction of spoilage. SOLUTION: The rotary press of a shaftless type has a plurality of rotary press constituting units 1, 2a-2n, 4 and 5 such as a plurality of printing units 2a-2n, driving motors 24i, 24a-24n, 24c and 24F provided individually for the units 1, 2a-2n, 4 and 5, and a control device 9 which controls the driving motors synchronously and also subjects the motors other than the specified motor 24F to a phase position control with the motor 24F used as a reference. In the operation for stopping the rotary press, including completion of printing, the control device 9 controls the driving motors of the printing units in a plurality through the phase position control so that plate cylinders of the printing units may come into prescribed phase relations for printing with one another, before cylinder withdrawal, and controls them so that all of these plate cylinders may stop at phase positions for stoppage respectively, after the cylinder withdrawal. |
