PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filled halobutyl elastomer composition having enhanced interaction existing between the elastomer and a filler (especially an inorganic filler or carbon black) and improved characteristics as compared with those of a conventional composition without evolving an alcohol. SOLUTION: This process for preparing the filled halobutyl elastomer comprises admixing a halobutyl elastomer, particles of a filler and an additive having at least one hydroxy group and at least one basic nitrogen-containing group and curing the resultant filled halobutyl elastomer.
