PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric water heater whose body can be made compact without boiling overflow when water is heated again during warming and which can set a suitable boiling time even when a water volume is changed. SOLUTION: This electric water heater is equipped with a hot water storage vessel 1 with a heater 2, a control means 9 to enable re-boiling by ON/OFF controlling power for the heater 2 from a prescribed temperature just before boiling during warming liquid in the hot water storage vessel 1. A temperature detecting means 6 to detect the temperature of the liquid in the hot water storage vessel 1, and a boiling detecting means 10 to stop the ON/OFF controlling of the heater 2 when the temperature rising gradient corresponding to the temperature obtained by a water volume discriminating means 7 becomes lower than a prescribed value. Thus boiling time can be suitably set when re-boiling is carried out during warming.
