PURPOSE: An oblique field switching liquid crystal display device is provided to increase the transmissivity by moving the disclination lines generated on an opening part onto the electrodes and reduce the reject due to the rubbing by omitting the rubbing of the electrode parts. CONSTITUTION: An oblique field switching liquid crystal display device includes upper and lower glass substrates(10a,10b) apart from each other by a predetermined distance, a liquid crystal layer formed of a plurality of liquid crystal molecules in a hybrid alignment to be horizontal on the upper substrate while vertical on the lower substrate, stripe type first common electrodes(23a) and pixel electrodes(11) disposed on an inner surface of the lower substrate for forming electric fields for operating the liquid crystal molecules, plate type second common electrodes(23b) disposed on an inner surface of the upper substrate with a voltage equal to the first common electrodes, an insulating layer(17) inserted between the plate type second electrode substrate and the liquid crystal layer for moving disclination lines by distorting the electric fields generated by the second common electrodes and the electrodes of the lower substrate, a first polarization plate(27a) disposed on an outer surface of the upper substrate with a predetermined polarization axis, a second polarization plate(27b) disposed on an outer surface of the lower substrate with a polarization axis parallel or perpendicular to the polarization axis of the first polarization plate, a phase compensating film disposed between the polarization plates and the upper and lower substrates for compensating the retardation of the liquid crystal layer, and orientation films(15) disposed on the inner surface of the upper substrate. |
