PURPOSE: A monitoring camera and a method of controlling the position of the monitoring camera are provided to correct an error in a position value, generated due to a detection width of a sensor, to accurately control the position of the monitoring camera. CONSTITUTION: A monitoring camera having a motor(14,16) rotatable in both directions includes a sensor(12,17) and a controller(11). The sensor detects a reference position of the motor. The controller obtains a sensor's width capable of detecting the reference position, sets initial values according to rotation directions of the motor with respect to the width of the sensor, initialize the position value of the motor to a predetermined value according to the rotation direction of the motor when the motor rotates to go to the reference position.
