PURPOSE: A portable terminal installing a flash and a method for controlling the illumination of the flash installed in the same are provided to control the turn-off of an illumination unit by corresponding to the input of a key and performing a predetermined turn-off control module. CONSTITUTION: An input unit(70) receives the input of a key for controlling a flash. The first illumination unit(20) is turned off according to a turn-off control signal provided according to a predetermined turn-off control module in case that the inputted key is a turn-off control function key. The second illumination unit(30) receives the input of a photographing key, and is turned off according to a turn-off control signal provided according to the inputted photographing key. A storing unit(90) stores the turn-off control module. A sensor unit(100) detects an external luminous intensity and generates an electric signal corresponding to the detected luminous intensity in case that the photographing key is inputted. A control unit(120) provides a turn-off control signal corresponding to the input of the input unit(70) to the first and second illumination units(20,30), and controls the storing unit(90) and the sensor unit(100).
