PURPOSE: A shock absorbing apparatus of a steering column is provided to adjust load efficiently, and to cut down manufacturing expenses by forming a wire between a mounting bracket and an outer tube fixed in the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing device of a steering column(10) is composed of a mounting bracket(40) contacted to the vehicle body by bending, and an outer tube fixed in the mounting bracket and moved axially in applying impact. An impact absorbing member(60) is formed between the mounting bracket and the outer tube with bending, and deformed to absorb shock at a collision. The outer tube is moved into the inner tube in transmitting impact to the steering column, and an intermediate end(63) is deformed with applying load to a deformation end(62). Load is adjusted with deforming the impact absorbing member.
