PURPOSE: A reciprocating compressor is provided to compact construction of parts, to suppress generation of impact noise and to stabilize operation. CONSTITUTION: A piston(420) forming a compression unit has a flange part(422) connected with a mover(340) of a reciprocating motor and is installed so that a distance between the piston flange part and a front frame(230) of a frame unit is shorter than a distance between the piston flange part and the reciprocating motor. A supporting part(232) is formed on the front frame forming the frame unit for a cylinder(410) forming the compression unit to be inserted therein so that a distance between an end surface of the cylinder and the flange part of the piston is longer than a distance between an end surface of the supporting part of the front frame and the flange part of the piston.
