Iterative drilling simulation for enhanced economic decision making involves obtaining characteristics of rock column in formation to be drilled, specifying characteristics of at least one drilling rig, and iteratively simulating well drilling to produce an economic evaluation for each iteration, which is a function of the rock column and the drill rig properties according to a given drilling simulation model. Independent claims are included for; (1) A method for enhanced economic decision making for drilling a well bore in a given formation using the above simulation, to generate a recommended package of drill rig system characteristics for use in actual drilling as a function of economic evaluation factors; and (2) A recommendation package for enhancing economic decision making for drilling at least one well in a given formation, derived as above.
