PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an optical film keeping an excellent orthogonal relation of slow axes even when a viewpoint is varied and which is used for forming a liquid crystal display device with excellent display quality, a quarter-wave plate and so on. SOLUTION: When three dimensional directions of the film are defined as X, Y, Z, refractive indexes in these directions are represented by nx, ny, nz, the film thickness is represented by d and relations (nx-ny)d=Re and (nx-nz)/(nx-ny)=Nz are used, the optical film is a laminated body composed of a birefringent film A with 0.4-0.6 Nz and exhibiting dispersion, a birefringent film B exhibiting larger dispersion. With Re smaller than that of the film a and with 0.4-0.6 Nz and a birefringent film C with 200-350 nm Re and >0.6 and <=0.9 Nz where the lag axis of the film is orthogonal to that of the film B. A polarizing plate is formed by stacking the optical film with an absorption type polarizing film on the film C side such that the absorption axis is parallel with the lag axis of the film C. The liquid crystal display device or other display device is provided with the optical film or the polarizing plate. |
