PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data management system and its control method that can easily manage data stored in a storage medium in an external device and to provide a program. SOLUTION: An infrared ray receiving section 13 receives an operation instruction signal from a control remote controller 4. The data management system makes report based on a kind of data stored in a memory card 2 and receives and stores data stored in the memory card 2 in an external device via a memory card insertion slot 11 after a lapse of a prescribed time from the report. After the end of storage the system deletes the data stored in the memory card 2. When the infrared ray receiving section 13 receives an operation instruction signal from the operation remote controller 4 before the lapse of the prescribed time, the system executes the processing corresponding to the operation instruction signal.
